Phenil Patel, Ph.D. is a Principal Research Scientist at Eli Lilly. He received Ph.D. in Medicinal Chemistry from the University of Toledo (1992), followed by a post-doctoral fellowship in Pharmaceutics with Prof. W.I. Higuchi at the University of Utah.  Phenil then worked at TheraTech (now Teva/Actavis Labs, UT), focusing on oral controlled release and bioavailability enhancement technologies.  He joined Pfizer (formerly Warner Lambert) in 1999, where he was engaged in discovery enabling as well as late stage formulation development.  Phenil has been at Lilly since 2007, where he has provided technical leadership to complex projects requiring absorption enabling technologies in discovery and clinical phase and has contributed to various stages of development spanning from discovery support to commercialization in areas including developability, absorption modeling, preclinical and commercial formulations, and regulatory submissions.  Phenil has been an active member of American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS) and has served on leadership team of the Physical Pharmacy and Biopharmaceutics section, steering committee of the Drug Candidate Selection Focus Group, and various other AAPS committees.
