Luis’ research interest is focused on developing delivery systems for therapeutics and vaccines. He is currently Director of formulation design at Moderna Therapeutics where he oversees a team of scientists focused on optimizing formulations for mRNA across various routes of administration. Prior to Moderna he was a Head of formulation science at Novartis Vaccines and Diagnostics where he was responsible for early discovery of adjuvant formulations and mRNA vaccine delivery systems. Prior to graduate school Luis worked at 2 small startups in Cambridge, MA, Galenea and Acusphere. He received his MS and PhD from Northeastern University in Pharmaceutical Sciences and his BS from Boston University in Human Physiology. He has co-authored 30 peer reviewed journal articles and is an inventor on 15 patents.
